Project Title: ‘Brassed Off & Beyond’

The project will engage young people in the Dearne Valley with their history and heritage through the themes in the film Brassed Off.
The project will encourage young people to look at, explore and be inspired by the heritage of their local area.
The project will commission a professional writer to work with the project team to create an engagement programme around the theme of the film Brassed Off and the community of Grimethorpe.
The engagement programme will consist of at least 6 workshops with a min. of 10 young people aged 14-25 from within the local community of Grimethorpe and the wider Dearne Valley.
The young people will be encouraged to research the themes and locations of the film eg.local industry, community, family, home life, mental health, local environment, music, perceptions & changes of the area.
Activities could include attending a performance of Brassed Off at theLamproom Theatre in Barnsley, Examining the script & speaking to local people who had a connection with the village at the time of filming.
The project will enable the young people to create a publication of their written work as a legacy of the project, this will be available online and in print, and can be used to inspire future project such as trails around the area.
The project will support the young people to perform at Poetry Festival in March 2017 if appropriate for the individuals taking part.
