Memories of Maurice

The DVLP is developing a play based on the enigmatic Maurice Dobson. Did you know him or do you remember him?

Sunday 25 October 2015, 2pm-5pm

Maurice Dobson was an enigmatic and curious character. A former miner, WW2 veteran and antiques collector with a museum bearing his name.

He was born in Wombwell in 1912 and followed his father and brothers into the pit, working at Mitchell Main Colliery. After serving in North Africa and the Middle East throughout the Second Word War he returned to the Dearne Valley permanently in 1956 with his partner Fred Halliday. Together they ran the shop at 2 Vicar Road, Darfield, until the 1980s. The shop is now the Maurice Dobson Museum and Heritage Centre.

We are working with Qdos Creates and the Maurice Dobson Museum to create a short play based on his life and need your help.

  • Did you know Maurice?
  • Do you have any stories or anecdotes about his life?
  • What was his partner Fred like?
  • Did you ever visit his shop?

Come along to the Maurice Dobson Museum (Darfield, S73 9JZ) to share your memories and enjoy a cup of tea and homemade cake.
