Our ‘train the trainer’ approach aims to give you the skills and knowledge required to carry out your own surveys with your local group. Giving you a fun activity you can run with your group to learn more about your local environment and also contribute to larger scale wildlife monitoring.

You and your group do not need to have previous experience of ecological surveying as the OPAL surveys we use are designed to be done by people of all abilities. OPAL (www.OPALexplorenature.org) is a UK-wide citizen science project that allows people to get hands-on with nature, whatever their age, background or level of ability. OPAL has a series of surveys of the natural environment that anyone can participate in, looking at anything from air and water quality to pests and diseases of trees. At this event we will provide you with training on how to do these surveys so you can then run them with your group. For further details about these surveys, please visit www.opalexplorenature.org/surveys.

The DVLP will work from 2014-2019 to conserve, protect and enhance the unique and varied landscape of the Dearne Valley, celebrating the wealth of the Dearne’s industrial heritage and rich wildlife sites. At this event you will also have the opportunity to hear more about the work of the DVLP, how you can get more involved with future surveys and have your say about the issues that affect you in the local area.

Please book your place by emailing [email protected] or phoning Rachel Pateman on 01904 324176. Places are limited and will be allocated on a first come first served basis. If there is sufficient demand we will run a second event and those who were unsuccessful this time will be given priority.
