We were delighted to be invited to give a talk at Christ Church, Ardsley, by Rev. Fiona Kouble. The talk, on the 12 December 2015, marked the build up to the 150th anniversary of the Oaks Disaster next year. Over 100 local people attended to hear more about the Oaks Memorial in the churchyard, the only memorial to remember all those killed in the disaster.
The response and participation from the audience was fantastic. Contributions from People and Mining, Graham Ibbeson, Brian Elliott and many others lead to interesting discussions about memorialisation and the importance of communities connecting with their past.
