An Introduction to Semi-natural Ancient Woodlands

A half-day workshop to look at one of Barnsley’s most important woodlands. We will look at the historical context, in order to identify both tree and some ground flora ancient woodland indicator species. The workshop will be led by local expert Geoff Carr.

Event Info

A field session will involve walking parts of the woodland to survey and identify trees and some plants. Winter dormant trees are often easier to identify than during a crowded, leafy summer.

As a result of the workshop participants be able to understand the concept of semi-natural ancient woodlands and be able to identify trees and some plants in a winter landscape.

Please bring boots/wellies, warm outdoor clothes and sandwiches for lunch.
