Scott was born in Mexborough and spent most of his life living and working in Darfield and Barnsley. He lead a dual life as a coal-miner and champion cyclist, winning over 300 titles in an illustrious career. Having once been the Dearne Valley’s most famous son he is now almost totally forgotten.

On the 150th anniversary of his birth come and find out more about this complicated and controversial character.
