Event Info
This is the first of two performances (5:30pm and 7pm) of theĀ Memories of Maurice play at the Maurice Dobson Museum, Darfield.
Local actor and director Simon Carr will be transforming himself into the enigmatic and controversial character of Maurice Dobson. He will welcome you into the shop he ran with his partner Fred for over 40 years and regale you with stories from his remarkable life.
Growing up in the Dearne Valley between the wars, working down the pits, his war time experience and his personal life with Fred will all be explored. Content for the play has been drawn fromĀ archive research and a community history project at the museum in October 2015. People who knew Maurice were filmed sharing their stories of him, the resulting film can be viewed here.
