We are looking for volunteers within the local community who would like to get more actively involved with roadside verge conservation. Three initial training days will take place on practical conservation in native wildflower sowing & bulb planting,helping to improve and enhance the value of verges for biodiversity.
Everyone welcome andprevious experience necessary, all training & tools will be provided:
Tuesday 12th March – Doncaster Road, Doncaster
Start time: 10am
Meeting point/car parking: Dearne Valley Leisure Centre, Doncaster Rd, Denaby Main, Mexborough S64 0LB
Info: The workshop will start at 10am in the car park of Dearne valley Leisure Centre, where we will give a brief intro and run through any health and safety information. We will be planting an array of native bulbs/rhizomes including, bluebells, wood anemone, and lily of the valley at two locations near Dearne Valley Leisure Centre and New Pastures Primary School. Please come equipped with suitable footwear and all weather clothing. All tools will be provided on the day.
Wednesday 13th March – Lidget Lane, Barnsley/Doncaster
Start time: 10am
Meeting point/car parking: Barrowfield Road, opposite the Animal Medical Centre. Barrowfield Road, Thurnscoe Business Park, Thurnscoe, Rotherham S63 0BH
Info: The workshop will start at 10am on Barrowfield Road, where we will give a brief intro and run through any health and safety information. We will be sowing hay rattle at two locations near Thurnscoe and Hickleton. Please come equipped with suitable footwear and all weather clothing. All tools will be provided on the day.
Thursday 14th March – Manvers way, Rotherham
Start time: 10am
Meeting point/car parking: The overflow car park at RSPB Dearne Valley Old Moor, Old Moor Ln, Wombwell, Bolton upon Dearne, Barnsley S73 0YF
Info: The workshop will start at 10am in the overflow car park of RSPB Dearne Valley Old Moor, where we will give a brief intro and run through any health and safety information. We will be sowing hay rattle along various sections of Manvers Way. Please come equipped with suitable footwear and all weather clothing. All tools will be provided on the day
Additional info for all workshop days:
- We anticipate that the workshops will last 2-4 hours approximately but please do not feel like you have to commit to the full day, all help no matter how long for, is greatly appreciated. If you are planning on staying for the full session it is recommended that you bring a packed lunch and plenty to drink.
- Some of the verges are quite long and it may be more convenient to change parking location during the day. If this is required we will discuss the details on the day.
