Stories of the Somme – John Glynn

A short film telling one man's story of his experiences of the Battle of the Somme through a dramatised account of his letters sent back home to his wife in Barnsley

The first grant awarded through the DVLP community grant programme has resulted in a short film marking the anniversary of the Battle of the Somme. This film tells the story of one man’s experience of World War 1 – John Glynn lived in St George’s Square in Barnsley and worked at Barrow Colliery in the Dearne Valley before leaving to fight. This is his story and an insight into the experiences of the Battle of the Somme, through a dramatised account of his letters sent back home to his wife in Barnsley.

This film was produced to coincide with the Stories of the Somme exhibition at Experience Barnsley in 2016. It was funded through a grant from the Dearne Valley Landscape Partnership.

Watch the film below and the exhibition at Experience Barnsley runs until 20th November 2016.
