Event Info
“If you’re from Barnsley, like I am, then A Kestrel For a Knave is your defining myth, your Domesday Book.” Ian McMillan
The film Kes dominates our understanding of Barry Hines and his work but the writing of this Dearne Valley author is starting to receive renewed attention.
In a partnership with the University of Sheffield and Barnsley Libraries we are delighted to offer a series of sessions exploring A Kestrel For a Knave at Hoyland Library. This first session will be ran as a reading group style discussion group, a chance to explore poetry and place in Hines’ writing.
To fully take part you must have read A Kestrel For a Knave recently. Contact your local library to reserve a copy.
The next two sessions are:
- Friday 20 May, 2-4pm- Sharing stories and responses
- Friday 3 June, 2-4pm- Visit to the Barry Hines Archive at the University of Sheffield
Free refreshments are being provided by Tesco Hoyland.
Places are free but must be booked.
