The DVLP officially ended in September 2019 and that is when Discover Dearne was formed.
The findings from our final evaluation and legacy reports were very positive and ultimately led to a confirmed desire by partners for us to continue to deliver projects in conjunction with the communities of the Dearne Valley.
With the overwhelming support from partners and communities it led our accountable body – Barnsley MBC (via their Culture and Visitor Economy Service) to show their commitment to the Dearne Valley and agreed to fund a team of two core staff for a further two years. This coincided with a further successful bid by the Barnsley Museums Heritage Trust to the National Lottery Heritage Fund for an eighteen-month project at Worsbrough Mill and Country Park called the Worsbrough Wet Woodland Project, to carry out some of the recommendations in the management plan the DVLP funded.
There is great potential to deliver even more for the people of the Dearne Valley. With a community as creative and passionate as that of the Dearne Valley there are always new and exciting things to discover and become involved in.
