Christoper Seddons was the Under Deputy at the Oaks Colliery, he went down the mine at 1am on 13 December 1866 as part of the rescue team. His son, Edward, and brother, Thomas, were killed in the first explosion. He had married Eliza Wilson in Cawthorne on 5 March 1838.
