These three, free events gave local people the chance to explore how the industrial history of the Dearne has affected the wildlife there today. There were activities for all the family including nature trails, bug hunts, worm surveys and pond dipping at New Park Springs, Phoenix Park and the former Cadeby Colliery Site.

These events mark the start of a long term partnership between the Opal Project and the DVLP, providing a way of testing out the approach and see what the local reaction was. They proved really popular with people providing their wildlife sightings and sharing their stories of how the area has changed over time. There was plenty of coverage in the local press and a live broadcast from Phoenix Park on Radio Sheffield.

Plans are now being developed for more activities in the future, learning lessons from these three initial events and we’ll publicise future events when they’ve been arranged.
